TEHRAN – Outstanding photographer Kamran Adl is to display a collection of his photos entitled “Once upon a Time” depicting the Iran of 40 years ago.
A collection of 130 photos taken in various regions of Baluchestan, Fars, Golpayegan, Zanjan, Neyshabur, and Kordestan will go on display at the exhibit that opens on Friday at the Shirin gallery. Many of these photos make one feel nostalgic about the old days in an Iran that no longer exists, the Persian service of ISNA reported on Wednesday.
Adl in his memoir of photography in Iran wrote, “When I returned home from Paris 40 years ago, I did not know what the future would hold for me. I left photography in Paris and came to Iran for adventure.
“I went to different spots in Iran and found out that I had not made a mistake by returning. I was exactly where I should be. Everything went my way and I got the chance to take many photos.
“It is true that Iran’s nature is mystical and I was fascinated by this, but then again the people of Iran were different 40 years ago. And I was tempted to photograph the Iranian element in its own environment.
“If you look carefully at the photos, you will notice that the Iranian element is the first priority. Even if you don’t see anyone in the photos, you will surely see hints of people, such as a flock of grazing sheep with the shadow of a shepherd above them.
“Look at the Iran of 40 years ago and you see what we have lost over the years. Today in Tehran’s Bazaar, the huge number of people and handcarts don’t allow one to breathe. They used to say that the weather in the bazaar is neither hot nor cold so the dealers and customers can buy and sell easily. This saying applied many years ago, but not now,” reads part of the note.
The exhibit will continue for 4 days at the gallery located on Salimi St., Andarzgu Blvd. in the Farmanieh neighborhood.
